Our HDL Commerce POS Innovation Lab
15 May – Listen to the bloga
At HDL, we’re not just building for today—we’re constantly experimenting, testing, and pushing boundaries to meet tomorrow’s demands. That’s why we recently cracked open our innovation lab for a bold new experiment: building a Point of Sale (POS) MVP/POC system tightly integrated with HDL Commerce and powered by the Stripe Terminal API.
What started as a pure innovation project quickly turned into a real-world testbed for cross-border retail transactions, physical-to-digital sync, and seamless payment lifecycle management.

Opening Up the Lab: A Hands-On MVP Approach
Rather than waiting for a traditional product cycle, we decided to open up our internal lab, roll up our sleeves, and start prototyping. The goal? Create a POS system that doesn’t just work—but thrives in real-world conditions across multiple locations and countries.
Using the Stripe Terminal API, our engineering team began designing a flexible and secure infrastructure that allows:
-
In-store payments with real-time sync to HDL Commerce
-
Multi-location support for retailers with stores across regions
-
Cross-border payment terminal configuration and compliance
-
End-to-end tracking of the payment lifecycle—from tap to payout
This wasn’t just a Stripe wrapper—we mapped out the full experience: from inventory management to terminal device activation, customer receipts, and transaction reconciliation.
Learning Through Experimentation
A few key challenges we tackled during this innovation sprint:
-
Terminal provisioning across markets
Setting up devices across borders came with unique Stripe compliance and merchant account requirements. We mapped these processes into a repeatable onboarding guide for future customers. -
Lifecycle syncing with HDL Commerce
We engineered real-time hooks to connect Stripe events with our order and customer management modules—ensuring every in-store transaction updates stock, customer data, and analytics instantly. -
Fallbacks, refunds, and reconciliation
We tested edge cases like disconnected terminals, failed payments, and return flows, ensuring the HDL POS system could handle them all with robust logging and fallback logic.
Why This Matters
While this was an MVP, the outcome has already laid the foundation for:
-
A future HDL Commerce POS product line
-
Better omnichannel commerce experiences for our clients
-
Streamlined physical retail operations powered by modern APIs
-
Flexible infrastructure that lets us adapt quickly to market and client needs
We believe the future of commerce is not just headless and digital—but unified across all customer touchpoints. This MVP is our step toward giving every HDL Commerce user the power to bridge the online and offline retail world.
What’s Next?
As we move toward a more production-ready version, we’re continuing to experiment with:
-
Loyalty point integration at checkout
-
Click & collect workflows
-
Hardware abstraction for broader terminal support
-
POS-based upselling tied to digital customer profiles
This project is a great example of how we approach innovation at HDL: fast, hands-on, and grounded in real business needs. If you’re a merchant, partner, or integration specialist curious about the next frontier of commerce—we’d love to hear from you.

We Are One of Helsingborg’s Företagsstjärnor – A Recognition That Reflects Our Global Vision – audio
15 May – Listen to the bloga
We’re proud to share that Helsingborg Development Lab has been named one of this year’s Företagsstjärnor (Company Stars) by Helsingborgs Stad.
This recognition is more than a title — it’s a meaningful nod to the work our entire team has put in over the years to make innovation, design, and technology not only a craft but a force for regional and global impact.
Why this matters
Since 2014, Helsingborgs Stad has awarded just under 200 companies with the Företagsstjärna distinction. The award is given to those who actively contribute to the city’s long-term vision: Helsingborg 2035 — a forward-looking initiative that aims to position Helsingborg as one of Europe’s most innovative, sustainable, and inclusive cities.
In their motivation, the city highlighted HDL as:
“A motor in the creative and global city. By accelerating ideas and building bridges between technology and the market, you strengthen the region’s competitiveness and connect customers globally. You show how the power of innovation can push boundaries and drive transformation — both locally and globally.”
This speaks directly to our mission.
We’re not just building software or designing beautiful interfaces — we’re helping companies grow, adapt, and become smarter in a digital-first world. And we’re doing it with a unique model that connects local knowledge with global talent.

A shared achievement — from Helsingborg to Kathmandu
One aspect of the award that means a lot to us is the city’s recognition of our international team in Nepal and the exchange program we’ve established between Helsingborg and Kathmandu.
This cross-border collaboration isn’t just a side note in our operations — it’s a core strength. It’s what allows us to scale quickly, bring fresh perspectives into projects, and create opportunities for cultural exchange and professional growth.
Our Nepali team isn’t just “offshore support” — they’re embedded in our strategy, involved in decision-making, and contribute daily to the innovation that powers our platforms and solutions. That this work is being acknowledged by the city of Helsingborg is something we are genuinely proud of.
Looking ahead
This award energizes us to keep pushing forward. It reminds us that business success is not just about growth metrics — it’s about responsibility, impact, and building the kind of company we’d want to work with ourselves.
To our clients, collaborators, and team members across continents — thank you. Let’s keep building something remarkable together.

The digital space is full of agencies that offer generic services. However, HDL stands out by focusing on one thing: solving problems, not selling packages.
The generic approach might work for many agencies. However, we take a different approach. At HDL, we are a solution-driven organization that analyzes your challenges deeply to craft tailored strategies and deliver measurable results.
In this blog, we are going to break down how we do things around at HDL. In a nutshell, we emphasize creating solutions through collaboration, innovation, and long-term partnerships. We will explain everything from our methodology to real-world examples so that you’ll understand our solution-driven approach.

Solutions-Driven Agencies: What Sets HDL Apart in a Crowded Market – audio
08 Apr – Listen to the bloga
Solutions-Driven vs. Service Providers: What’s the Difference?
Most agencies are service providers, meaning they offer predefined packages, such as “website design” or “SEO.” But here’s the problem: these one-size-fits-all solutions often miss the mark.
They address symptoms rather than root causes, leaving businesses with shiny deliverables that don’t actually solve their problems.
They tackle the obvious surface-level problems but miss the deeper challenges. This leaves businesses with solutions that look attractive, but fall short.
At HDL, we’re different. As a solutions-driven agency, we focus on:
Root Causes: We dig deep to understand the real challenges your business faces.
Custom Strategies: Every strategy is tailored to your unique needs.
Outcomes Over Deliverables: We measure success by the impact we create, not just the work we deliver.
Why does this matter? It’s because businesses today need partners who adapt to their goals, not force them into rigid frameworks.
The HDL Methodology: Listen, Understand, Strategize, Implement
Our approach is simple but powerful. Here’s how we turn challenges into opportunities:
Step 1: Listen
It all starts with listening. We don’t assume we know what you need—we ask. Through in-depth discovery sessions, we learn about your business, pain points, and goals. We ensure that no detail is overlooked.
Step 2: Understand
Next, we analyze data, workflows, and user behavior to identify bottlenecks. Take our work with the Dogman Care Platform, for instance. By understanding the needs of both customers and service workers, we built a booking system that’s easy to use and simple to manage.
Step 3: Strategize
Once we’ve identified the problem, we collaborate with you to design actionable, future-proof solutions. We don’t do this alone. Your thoughts and input are equally important to getting it right.
Step 4: Implement
Finally, we execute with precision, combining technical expertise and creative problem-solving.
Some Case Studies
By reviewing our portfolio, you will gain a better understanding of how we have been offering tailored B2B solutions to businesses.
As per clients’ requirements, we have been utilizing composable architecture, which is a crucial part of our toolkit. This modular approach to building solutions allows adding or removing services as needed.
One such project we worked with is Sail Racing International. The sailing gear brand faced challenges with its outdated e-commerce platform. They needed a solution that could scale with their growth and offer flexibility. So, we built a completely new e-commerce website to match their needs with our composable commerce platform.
The modular approach us to easily add new features and adapt to changing demands. As a result, the sleek, user-friendly website boosted sales and set the stage for future growth.
Long-Term Partnerships with HDL
For HDL, the job doesn’t end when the project is over. We believe in building long-term partnerships that grow with your business.
We offer ongoing support to provide regular audits, updates, and optimizations to keep your solutions running smoothly.
As your business evolves, so do our strategies. With that, we tend to provide you with the best solutions that will keep you ahead of your competition.
This approach works for both us and our clients because it builds trust and aligns with our objectives. In other words, when you succeed, we do, too!
Conclusion
Think of HDL as a solutions-driven partner that listens, innovates, and delivers real-world impact. We are here to help your business thrive in a crowded market by providing tailored strategies and being your business’s long-term partner.
Ready to see the difference HDL’s solutions-driven approach can make? Let’s collaborate.
Let’s discuss AI. It is an important breakthrough of the present time, enabling unimaginable things. Used in the right way, it could become an efficient helping hand in every aspect of life.
AI has changed the way we work. What used to take hours of effort and a group of workforce, AI can do it within minutes.
But here’s the thing: as powerful as AI is, it’s not perfect. It can’t empathize with people, tell a great story, and can’t come up with creative ideas that resonate with humans.
At HDL, we believe human creativity is irreplaceable. In this blog, we are going to show you why thought leadership matters in the age of AI.
The Limits of AI: Where Machines Fall Short
AI is good at handling repetitive tasks like calculations and automating processes. But when it comes to creativity, empathy, and understanding cultural nuances, AI just can’t keep up.
AI can design a featureful website that also looks good. But think about it. Can it evoke emotions in users? Or can it reflect your brand image? The answer is no. We understand that businesses face problems that are beyond AI.
These are some of the areas where human creativity is essential. At HDL, we know the best solutions are created by combining technology and human insight. For the same reason, we focus on thought leadership as creativity and empathy are things only humans can bring to the table.
How HDL Combines Human Creativity with Technology
As mentioned previously, we combine technology with creativity to create innovative and out-of-the-box solutions. We achieve it by the following approach:
Collaborative Culture
We bring together experts from different fields, such as designers, developers, marketers, business developers, and others, to brainstorm ideas and innovate. Due to cross-disciplinary collaboration, we can see problems from different angles and, therefore, create optimal solutions.
Thought Leadership
We are one of the agencies that tries to set trends rather than follow them. Our team constantly explores new ideas and pushes boundaries to stay ahead of the AI curve. This mindset allows us to deliver solutions that are not only effective but also forward-thinking.
Real-World Examples
Let’s take a look at a couple of projects where human creativity made all the difference:
Dogman Care Platform
Dogman Care offers specialized pet services, like grooming and claw cutting. They needed a booking system that was easy for customers to use and also gave store workers and HQ the control they needed. With that requirement, we built a tailored booking solution that simplified the entire process. That resulted in a seamless customer experience and easy booking management for the store workers.
This kind of solution requires thinking from both the customers’ and the business’s perspective. Check out the Dogman Care case study to see how we made it happen.
Why Thought Leadership Matters for Your Business
As AI becomes more common, businesses need more than technical expertise. They need partners who can think creatively, solve complex problems, and understand the human side of things.
At HDL, we don’t follow the cookie-cutting approach. So, if you partner with thought leaders like HDL, you will get a team of innovators who take the time to understand your business. We understand that no two businesses are alike.
Whether you want a custom web application, a rebranding project, or a complex integration, we deliver solutions tailored to your needs. This personalized approach is something AI just can’t replicate.
Our team ensures your business stands out from your competitors. In addition, we put people first. So, our human-centric solutions resonate with the people, be they your customers or audience. This means you get access to strategies and solutions that give you a real competitive edge.
How HDL Can Help You Thrive
You might be looking to build a new website, streamline your operations, or create a marketing campaign that truly resonates with your audience. Then, HDL is here to help. Our team of experts will work closely with you to develop a strategy that drives real results. We’re not just here to execute tasks; we’re here to think, innovate, and lead.
Final Thoughts: Let’s Create Something Extraordinary Together
AI is a powerful tool that can help businesses work smarter and faster. But when it comes to creativity, empathy, and strategic thinking, humans still have the edge. At HDL, we are proud to be thought leaders in the digital space. We are excited to help businesses like yours thrive in the age of AI.
So, if you’re ready to take your business to the next level, let’s talk. Together, we can create something extraordinary, customized according to your needs.
The world is changing rapidly, and AI is one of the driving forces behind this change. AI has proven to be useful in almost everything. Tasks that previously required skilled professionals – such as web development, SEO and content creation – can now be performed with the help of AI.
But as a digital agency – are we worried? The answer is no!
At HDL, we focus on the areas where AI falls short: strategy, creativity, empathy, and even the human imperfections that make an experience genuine.
In this blog, we explain how HDL is leading the digital sphere through thought leadership, innovation and solutions to human-centered problems.
We start with why traditional service models are in decline.
Why are traditional digital service models losing ground?
Until the breakthrough of AI, agencies were often built on a simple business model: offer one service at one price – and repeat. But AI is changing the rules of the game.
AI-powered tools can now write code, analyze data, create marketing copy and personalize customer experiences.
It is therefore no wonder that companies are starting to question whether they should pay agencies for tasks that AI can perform faster and cheaper.
But the truth is that businesses need agencies for more than just execution. They need partners who can solve problems AI can’t.
For example, creating a long-term digital strategy that meets users’ changing behaviors requires human thinking and intelligence.
The same is true when it comes to understanding customers’ emotional connection to a brand and its products or services.
This is where HDL comes in. We don’t just focus on completing tasks – we solve problems that require human insight and creativity.
HDL’s view on thought leadership and innovation
At HDL, we don’t just take on any project. Our team tackles complex challenges that are beyond the capabilities of AI.
We focus on tailor-made and high-impact projects that require deeper thinking, creativity – and sometimes even challenge ourselves.
It also positions us as a thought leader in the digital industry. This is what it looks like in practice:
Complex integrations
Let’s take a concrete example. Recently, we worked with Sail Racing International AB to develop a fully customized e-commerce platform. Our team integrated several systems, including an advanced ERP, compliance with EU OSS regulations, and a multi-channel structure for global sales.
This required human expertise, strategic planning, and a deep understanding of the customer’s unique business needs – not something an AI can do on its own.
Replatforming project
We have helped companies migrate to modern platforms, based on their specific requirements.
In addition, we plan long-term with the selection of the right infrastructure, such as servers, databases, domains and composable architecture. Even this is not something AI can handle itself.
Human-centered design
We create UX/UI designs that don’t just look good – but make people connect with the company on a deeper level. We think about how users feel when they interact with a website or app.
We ask questions like: “What makes the experience memorable?” or “How can we make this easier and more engaging?”
Why businesses need innovation-driven agencies like HDL
AI is powerful – but has its limitations.
Businesses need agencies like HDL to build bridges between technology and human needs.
At HDL, it’s not about delivering services, it’s about providing customized solutions.
We have a team of business analysts, designers, system architects and experts working together to deliver people-centric solutions.
We work closely with our customers to understand their goals, challenges and visions. Based on these, we create solutions that are fully customized to them.
Concluding words
We’re already living in the AI era – and it’s affecting how agencies should work. Companies need more than a service provider. They need a partner that can deliver thoughtful solutions with a human perspective.
The agencies that succeed in this era are those that choose innovation over automation.
At HDL, we see this as an opportunity to invest even more in thought leadership, innovation and human-centered problem solving.
If you run a business that needs innovative digital solutions – get in touch.
We’re here to understand your unique needs and create a solution that fits you and your customers perfectly.
In today’s rapidly changing digital landscape, web agencies are facing a new reality where AI technologies, such as ChatGPT, are playing an increasingly important role. These tools offer businesses the ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently, which has changed customers’ expectations of their agencies. To remain attractive and relevant, agencies need to embrace change and adapt to this new world.
And this is something that we at Helsingborg Design LAB have been working on over the past few months. If you’ve been a client, you noticed the biggest difference in August/September when we started a new initiative where we wanted to engage more with our clients. Now that we’re growing and becoming a bigger team, it’s increasingly important, and to be completely transparent, it’s something that we at HDL haven’t previously prioritized or had the resources for. Now we are working to build this up. It becomes somewhere an invisible trust issue.
Historical Overview and Changes in the Agency Industry
Traditionally, web agencies have focused on offering one-off services, such as web design, development and marketing. These services were often reactive, meaning that agencies waited for clients to express their needs before offering solutions. But with digital transformation, the playing field has changed. Clients are now looking for integrated solutions that combine strategy, design and technology to create a coherent digital experience.
This change has been partly driven by the rapid development of AI. AI has become a central part of many companies’ operations at the edge, leading to increased demands on the agencies they work with to deliver faster and more efficient solutions.
The Role and Limitations of AI
AI tools such as ChatGPT have revolutionized the way businesses manage their digital needs. These tools can quickly process large amounts of data, generate content and even make recommendations based on analysis. This has allowed businesses to solve problems and make decisions faster than ever before.
But despite AI’s many benefits, the technology has its limitations. AI lacks the strategic insight and creative intuition that human experts offer. While AI can analyze data and make recommendations, it cannot understand the subtle nuances of a company’s business goals or market dynamics. Nor can it create the kind of innovative and unique design solutions that human designers can.
This is where web agencies have an opportunity to differentiate themselves. By using AI as a tool to support their services, agencies can offer a combination of technical expertise and human creativity that AI alone cannot deliver.
Increased Requirements for Proactive Partnership
As AI becomes increasingly accessible and user-friendly, clients’ expectations of their agencies have changed. Clients are now looking for more proactive partners who not only react to their needs, but also anticipate them. This has led to increased demands on agencies to offer faster and more proactive solutions.
Why have these demands increased?
-
Fast Access to Information: AI allows customers to get answers and solutions to their questions quickly, often within seconds. This has led to an expectation of fast and efficient response even from agencies. When a customer can get an immediate solution from AI, why would they wait 48 hours for a response from their agency?
-
Availability of AI tools: Many companies have become adept at using AI to support their business processes. This means they can often handle simpler tasks themselves and expect agencies to bring a higher value and deeper expertise.
-
Human vs. AI and Agency vs. AI: AI can quickly process and analyze large amounts of data, but it is still limited in its ability to offer the kind of creative and strategic insight that a human can. Agencies therefore need to position themselves as experts who can interpret AI’s output and add human insight and intuition to create real value.
How can agencies meet these demands?
To meet the increased demands of today’s digital landscape, agencies need to adapt their processes and services to better meet the needs of their clients. At HDL, we have taken this very seriously. Not only have we analyzed our existing client base, partners and projects, but we’ve also collected huge amounts of data over the years via our CRM, project teams, discussions and communication tools like Slack. Now, in collaboration with leading AI models, we are building a system that will help us deliver the service our customers expect on a daily basis. At the same time, we strive to be the proactive agency in the room, always ready to take initiative and lead developments forward.
-
Proactive Communication: Agencies should aim to be ahead of the curve by offering recommendations and solutions before clients even ask for them. This requires a deep understanding of the client’s business and industry, as well as an ability to anticipate future needs and challenges.
-
Faster Response and Customization: By streamlining internal processes and using in-house AI tools, agencies can reduce response time and offer quick, relevant solutions. This means that agencies need to invest in technology and training to ensure their teams are equipped to handle the latest tools and techniques.
-
Focus on Strategic Advice: By offering strategic advice that goes beyond what AI can offer, agencies can demonstrate their unique value and build stronger partnerships. This means agencies need to develop deeper relationships with their clients and work closely with them to understand their long-term goals and visions.
Future Opportunities
The future of web agencies is full of opportunities. By leveraging new technologies and focusing on customer-centric solutions, agencies can continue to create significant value for their clients. It’s about embracing innovation and being ready to adapt to new trends. This is something that we as technology leaders have embraced, but before we chose to start developing we needed to test the waters and in that test we gained many new clients but we also lost clients who felt we were too late. That’s the danger! We learned and realized how important this service internally will be going forward.
In a world where AI is rapidly changing the rules of the game, it is the agencies that can combine technological advances with human creativity and insight that will remain attractive and relevant to their clients. By focusing on the areas where AI cannot deliver the same value, such as strategic planning and creative design, agencies can continue to be an indispensable partner for their clients.
E-commerce has evolved over time from simple online stores to complex systems offering smooth payments, personalized dashboards, recommendations, filters, mobile access and many useful features.
Despite this, traditional systems have faced several challenges, such as a lack of flexibility, scalability, integration and the possibility of rapid functional updates. The main reason is their unified and integrated architecture.
This is where composable commerce comes in. This flexible and modular approach allows businesses to create their ideal e-commerce platforms by integrating components such as microservices and APIs. Businesses can seamlessly combine useful components to adapt to the market, innovate faster and deliver personalized shopping experiences.
In this blog post, we’ll look at how composable commerce is crucial to giving your customers the best possible online experience.
What is Composable Commerce?
Composable commerce is a modern and modular approach to building and managing e-commerce platforms. It leverages microservices, APIs, headless architecture and cloud services to create a personalized and customizable e-commerce experience, perfectly tailored to specific needs.
Unlike traditional, monolithic systems where all components are tightly connected and rigid, composable commerce makes it possible to integrate individual functions and services without having to tear down the entire platform.
Microservices are central to composable commerce and break down different functions, such as payments, inventory management or product catalogs, into manageable parts. Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) connect these services and enable seamless collaboration between them.
With cloud-based infrastructure, businesses can scale up or down as needed, and a headless architecture separates the front-end (what users see) from the back-end, allowing greater design and content flexibility.
Benefits of Composable Commerce compared to traditional e-commerce
Traditional e-commerce platforms often struggle to meet today’s fast-moving digital demands. Their interconnected components mean that changes or updates to one feature require changes to the entire system, which can be both costly and time-consuming.
Let’s look at the benefits of composable commerce compared to traditional solutions.
Flexibility and adaptation
Composable commerce allows businesses to tailor their platforms to specific needs. They can select the best components, such as payment solutions or inventory management systems, and integrate them seamlessly. This allows businesses to adapt to market trends and changes.
Agility and speed
Composable commerce allows companies to roll out new features and updates faster. They can replace individual components without having to rebuild the entire system, reducing downtime and driving innovation.
Cost-effectiveness
Composable commerce reduces maintenance costs because companies don’t have to manage large, complicated systems. Its modular design makes development cheaper, allowing it to scale and customize without excessive costs.
Innovation
The modular design makes it easy to integrate and test new technologies, providing an environment for continuous improvement. This helps companies stay at the forefront of the industry.
How Composable Commerce improves the online experience
In addition to the benefits, composable commerce also helps improve the shopping experience by creating more personalized, seamless and engaging interactions for customers.
Personalization
With the help of AI and data-driven modules, businesses can deliver highly personalized shopping experiences. They can offer tailored product recommendations and analyze customer behavior to adapt the platform to individual preferences.
Frictionless user experience
The modular approach makes it possible to optimize several aspects of the user experience, such as faster loading times, easier navigation and smoother checkout processes. This results in an improved user experience and higher conversion rates.
Integration of new technologies
Composable commerce also enables the integration of innovative technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), voice-activated commerce and the Internet of Things (IoT). This creates new ways of interacting with customers and takes the experience to a new level.
Challenges and constraints
As with any innovation, there are some challenges with composable commerce.
Initial complexity
Managing modules from multiple suppliers can be challenging, and a larger initial investment may be required to design a modular system.
Choosing the right components
Choosing the right microservices and APIs to suit your unique needs is crucial. This requires careful evaluation and technical expertise to ensure smooth integration.
Concluding words
Composable commerce has the potential to reshape e-commerce by giving businesses the flexibility and adaptability needed to deliver more personalized and engaging shopping experiences. By using modular components, businesses can build tailored solutions and quickly adapt to market changes.

Have you heard about the latest WordPress release, WordPress 6.6? It’s here with some great features and improvements.
WordPress 6.6, codenamed “Dorsey”, is the second major update for 2024 and the 50th WordPress release ever. This version includes new features that improve WordPress sites with creative extensions, better site management, and more opportunities for customization.
In short, WordPress 6.6 includes updates such as improved block editing, new design tools, customizations, and improvements for developers. The updates are designed to provide a smooth experience when creating and maintaining websites. In addition, some features from the previous version (6.5) have also been upgraded, focusing on performance and user experience.
Let’s explore the exciting new features and updates in WordPress 6.6.
Improvements in speed and performance
To improve the speed of WordPress sites, WordPress 6.6 has optimized resource loading, reduced redundant server calls, and improved lazy loading.
A notable update is the lazy loading of embedded content, such as social posts and videos, which now only load when you scroll to them. This reduces the loading time of the main content.
In addition, unnecessary polyfill dependencies have been removed. As modern browsers no longer need many polyfills, this reduces resource consumption and improves website performance. Also, large options are no longer automatically loaded on every page request, reducing resource usage and speeding up pages.
Synchronized pattern matching
WordPress 6.6 makes it possible to override synchronized designs, giving you more control over your site’s design.
Previously, all instances of a block pattern were updated when you changed it. Now you can edit individual instances without affecting the others. For example, you can customize an author box in a blog without affecting other pages.
Automatically restore updated plug-ins
If a plugin update causes problems on your site, WordPress 6.6 can automatically restore the plugin to a previous stable version. This ensures stability and minimizes downtime.
Keyboard shortcut to group blocks
WordPress 6.6 introduces a keyboard shortcut to group blocks faster and easier. Highlight multiple blocks and press CTRL + G (Windows) or Command + G (MacOS) to instantly group them.
Support for negative margins
You can now use negative margins directly in the editor, giving you more flexibility in page layout. Simply enter negative values in the block settings to create unique design solutions.
Improved data view in the website editor
The Website Editor now has a more organized layout, making it easier to manage designs, templates and styles. With support for bulk handling, you can further streamline your workflow.
New grid block
The new grid block makes it easier to display content such as images, text and icons. You can adjust width, height and layout options to create responsive and attractive design solutions.
Upgrades for developers
Version 6.6 offers improved APIs, extended support for JSX, and deprecates support for older PHP versions (7.0 and 7.1). This makes it easier for developers to create interactive components and future-proof their projects.
WordPress 6.6 offers a host of improvements and new features to help both site owners and developers take their projects to the next level. The update provides increased control over the look, feel, and performance of websites.

Growth and Development of the team:
Over the year, our team has undergone significant changes. We have both recruited new talent and said goodbye to some who sought new challenges in other industries. These changes have allowed us to embrace new perspectives and strengthen our culture of innovation and creativity. Our existing employees have made great strides and many have stepped up into new roles, helping us to continue to exceed industry standards and deliver outstanding results.
One of the highlights of the year was the launch of our internal Academy. This initiative is designed to give our staff a deeper understanding of our company, our products, and to promote a common mindset and working methods.
Challenges and Faith in the Future:
It has been a tough year, and we have done our best to avoid price increases and keep our projects and quotes at the same pricing and models. Instead, we have focused on streamlining internally. The climate is tense and tough, and we are willing to be transparent about it. But with the support we have from all our customers and partners, we know we have each other’s back in the storm! We look forward to a strong 2025 with an equal improvement in services, products, delivery and pricing.
A New Year’s greeting:
As we enter the peaceful time of the New Year, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to you all. Your support and cooperation have been crucial to our success. We look forward to a new year filled with new opportunities and continued success.
We wish you a happy and prosperous new year!
With warmest regards,
The team at HDL
2024 has been a dynamic year for the e-commerce sector, marked by rapid technological progress and changing consumer behavior. Here we look at the most prominent trends of the year and what we can expect for 2025.
1. AI-driven personalization
In 2024, AI has become a central component in creating personalized shopping experiences. By analyzing customer data, companies have been able to offer tailored recommendations and improved customer journeys. By 2025, we expect AI technologies to become even more sophisticated, enabling even more precise personalization and predictive analytics.
2. augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR)
AR and VR have revolutionized the way consumers interact with products online. In 2024, we have seen more companies integrate these technologies to offer virtual fitting rooms and interactive product demonstrations. Next year, we can expect an increase in these features, especially in the fashion and furniture industries, to reduce returns and increase customer satisfaction.
3. Sustainability and ethical consumption
Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their purchases. In 2024, companies have started to focus more on sustainable and ethical business practices, which include everything from eco-friendly packaging to fair trade. By 2025, companies that do not adapt to these expectations are likely to be left behind.
4. Faster and more flexible delivery options
Customer expectations for delivery speed and flexibility have increased in 2024. With advances in logistics and the use of drones and autonomous vehicles, companies have been able to offer faster deliveries. By 2025, we are likely to see further innovations in this area, with a focus on improving last-mile deliveries.
5. Social commerce and influencer marketing
Social media has become a powerful platform for e-commerce. In 2024, the integration of shoppable posts and influencer collaborations has continued to grow. The HDL team attended the Websummit and gained insights from social commerce experts. Discussions varied; some experts believe that social commerce is already here and now, while others believe we are still ten years away from its full potential. Sweden in particular is at the forefront of social commerce, with the largest share of social buyers in the Nordic region. Looking ahead to 2025, this trend is expected to continue, with new platforms and technologies making it even easier for consumers to shop directly from their social feeds.
Executive summary
The e-commerce landscape is constantly changing, and businesses must be prepared to adapt to remain competitive. By keeping an eye on these trends and preparing for future changes, businesses can not only meet but exceed customer expectations.
Developing a custom web application that combines PHP/RestAPI with a React.js frontend is a complex but rewarding process. Here’s a deep dive into each step of this journey, with examples from Helsingborg Design LAB’s projects.
1. conceptualization and requirements gathering
This phase is about clearly defining the goals and functionality of the application. We start by understanding the customer’s business needs and how the application can support these. This includes mapping user journeys and identifying key features. For a project with a retail chain, this meant creating a solution that could integrate multiple data sources to improve inventory management and customer experience.
2. Design and Prototyping
The design phase focuses on creating user-centered solutions. We develop wireframes and interactive prototypes for the React.js frontend, which helps visualize the user interface and ensure it is intuitive and efficient. We use Filament PHP to quickly create administrative panels that support backend processes, allowing the design team to get feedback early and iterate on the design.
3. Backend development with PHP/RestAPI and Filament PHP
In this phase, we build the backend structure with PHP, creating robust RestAPIs that can handle large amounts of data and complex transactions. Filament PHP is used to streamline the development of administrative interfaces, making it easy to manage and visualize data. One example is an application for a B2B supplier where we created a system to manage orders and customer data in real time.
4. Front-end development with React.js
Frontend development focuses on creating a dynamic and responsive user experience using React.js. Here we build components that communicate with the backend APIs to retrieve and present data in a user-friendly way. For a financial client, we developed a real-time dashboard that allowed quick access to financial data, improving decision-making.
5. Integration and Testing
Once both the front-end and back-end are fully developed, we integrate the systems and perform extensive testing to ensure that all parts work seamlessly together. We conduct unit and integration tests to identify and fix bugs and ensure that the application meets all requirements. This step is crucial to ensure that the application is robust and reliable.
6. Launch and Implementation
After successful testing, we prepare for launch, which means deploying the application to the production environment and ensuring that everything works as it should. We monitor the implementation closely and provide training to help users navigate and use the application effectively. Our team is ready to handle any issues that may arise during this critical phase.
7. post-launch support and maintenance
After the launch, we offer continuous support and maintenance to ensure that the application continues to function optimally. We collect user feedback to make improvements and updates, which helps keep the application relevant and effective. This step is crucial to ensure long-term success and customer satisfaction.
Executive summary
Developing a web application with PHP/RestAPI and React.js frontend, built on Filament PHP, offers a powerful solution for businesses seeking scalability and flexibility. By carefully following these steps, businesses can create customized applications that drive results and improve the user experience.
Understand the Basics: Frontend, Backend and PHP
When talking about web applications, you often come across terms like “frontend”, “backend” and “PHP”. Here is a simple explanation of what these mean, so that everyone can understand:
front end
The front-end is the part of the web application that the user sees and interacts with. Think of it as the ‘front’ of a website. It includes everything from buttons and menus to images and text. The frontend is developed using languages and tools like HTML, CSS and JavaScript. In our context, we use React.js, which is a popular JavaScript library for building interactive and responsive user interfaces.
backend
The backend is the ‘back side’ of the web application that the user does not see. It is where all data is stored and processed. The backend handles functions like login, data storage, and business logic. It’s like the engine of a car – it makes everything run smoothly. The backend is often developed using programming languages like PHP, Python or Java.
PHP
PHP is a programming language used to develop the backend part of web applications. It is particularly good at handling dynamic websites, where content can change depending on user interactions. PHP is used to create and manage databases and to build APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that allow the front-end and back-end to communicate with each other.
RestAPI
RestAPI is a set of rules that allow the frontend (what the user sees) and the backend (what happens behind the scenes) to talk to each other. It’s like a bridge that connects the two parts, allowing them to exchange information and work together.
By understanding these basic components, you will gain a better insight into how a web application works and how different parts interact to create a smooth and efficient user experience.
Mastering SEO can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube in the dark, with your hands tied behind your back. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you navigate this digital jungle with a smile on your face! In this guide, we’ll explore the most common questions and challenges around SEO, all with a pinch of humor and a friendly tone. So, sit back, relax and let’s dive into the world of SEO together!
What is SEO and why does it matter?
SEO, or search engine optimization, is the art of getting your website to show up on Google and other search engines. Think of it as the Internet’s version of a declaration of love – you want Google to fall in love with your website and place it at the top of the search results page.
Why is SEO important?
Imagine you run a charming little shop in Skåne. You have the most delicious cinnamon buns in the whole of the Nordic region, but if no one knows your shop exists, how can they enjoy your pastries? The same goes for your website. Without SEO, you can have the best content in the world, but without visibility, no one will find it.
SEO in a nutshell
SEO is all about optimizing content, using the right keywords and building a user-friendly website to attract both visitors and search engines. It’s like inviting both humans and robots to a party – everyone should have fun!
Understanding Keywords
Keywords are the stars of SEO. They are the words and phrases that people type into search engines. Choosing the right keywords is like picking the right flower for a bouquet – it can make all the difference!
How to find the right keywords?
To find the right keywords, you need to understand what your potential customers are searching for. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to identify popular search terms in your industry.
Keyword placement
It’s not enough to just know the keywords – you also need to use them strategically. Include the keywords in titles, headings and throughout the text, but be careful not to overdo it. Search engines don’t like too many keywords – it’s like serving too much herring on a midsummer buffet.
Creating Quality Content
The content of your website is king! It’s what attracts visitors and makes them stay. But what is quality content, and how do you create it?
What is meant by quality content?
Quality content is informative, engaging and relevant to your audience. It’s like a good book – you want your visitors to be so engrossed that they can’t put it down.
Tips for creating quality content
To create quality content, focus on solving problems, answering questions and offering valuable information. Use a friendly and light-hearted tone, and don’t forget to include images and videos to make the content even more engaging.
On-Page SEO: The Art of Optimizing Your Pages
On-page SEO is about optimizing individual pages on your website to improve their visibility in search results. It’s like cleaning your house before guests arrive – you want everything to look perfect!
Element of On-Page SEO
Key elements of on-page SEO include title tags, meta descriptions, headings, and internal links. These elements help search engines understand what your page is about.
Optimizing images
Don’t forget to optimize your images! Use descriptive file names and alt texts to ensure that search engines can ‘see’ your images. It’s like labeling all the jars in your pantry – it makes it easier to find the right thing at the right time.
Off-Page SEO: Building Links and Reputation
Off-page SEO is about improving your website’s authority and reputation through external factors, such as links from other websites. It’s like getting recommendations from friends – it helps others trust you!
The importance of link building
Link building is an important part of off-page SEO. When other websites link to yours, search engines see it as a sign that your site is trustworthy and valuable.
How to get links?
To get links, focus on creating high-quality content that others want to share. You can also collaborate with other businesses and bloggers to create guest posts or articles.
Technology: The foundations of SEO
The technology behind your website is crucial to its SEO success. A fast and mobile-friendly website makes both users and search engines happy.
The importance of a fast website
Nobody likes a slow website. Make sure your site loads fast by optimizing images, using cache and minimizing code. It’s like tuning your bike to get a smoother ride.
Mobile-friendliness
As more and more people use their mobiles to browse the web, it is important that your website is mobile-friendly. Use responsive design to ensure your website looks good on all devices.
Measurement and Analysis: Understanding Your Success
Measuring and analyzing your SEO success is crucial to understanding what’s working and what needs improvement. It’s like keeping track of your training progress – you want to know if your efforts are paying off!
Use tools for analysis
Use tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track your website traffic, keywords and user behavior. These tools give you valuable insights into what’s working and what needs tweaking.
Analyze and adjust
Analyze your data regularly and adjust your strategy based on the insights. It’s like adjusting the sails of a boat to catch the wind in the best way.
Common SEO Myths: What Not to Believe?
There are many misconceptions about SEO, and it can be difficult to know what is true and what is false. Let’s take a look at some common myths and why they’re not true.
Myth: SEO is a one-off task
Many people think that SEO is something you do once and then it’s done. Wrong! SEO is an ongoing process that requires continuous attention and adaptation.
Myth: Keywords are all that matter
While keywords are important, they are only one piece of the SEO puzzle. Quality content, technical optimization and links are also crucial to your success.

1. introduction: the search for the perfect development agency
Choosing the right development agency is like finding the perfect pair of jeans. You know, the ones that fit just right, make you look amazing, and have pockets deep enough to store all your hopes and dreams. But instead of denim, you’re looking for a team of tech gurus who can turn your digital dreams into reality. That’s where Helsingborg Design LAB (HDL) comes in, known for its customized digital experiences that foster business growth.
Let’s be honest, the digital world is a bit of a jungle. With so many agencies out there, it’s easy to feel lost in the wilderness. But fear not! We’re here to guide you through the process with a pinch of humor and a dose of SEO-friendly wisdom.
So, grab a cup of coffee (or tea, if you’re feeling extravagant), sit back and let’s embark on this journey together. By the end of this blog post, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and laughter needed to find your perfect digital partner, maybe even with HDL.
2. the digital jungle: Why It’s Tricky Out There
In the vast digital jungle, agencies are like exotic animals. Some are majestic, while others are more like a colorful peacock, all show and no substance. It’s crucial to know what you’re looking for, otherwise you could end up with a bunch of dazzling feathers and no results.
The challenge is to distinguish between agencies that promise gold and green forests and those that actually deliver. It’s easy to be charmed by fancy presentations and buzzwords, but remember, all that glitters is not gold. Some agencies can dazzle you with jargon, leaving you equally clueless about what they actually do.
Moreover, the wrong agency can lead to costly mistakes and missed opportunities. Choosing wisely means finding a partner who understands your business goals and complements your vision. It’s about finding the right fit, just like those elusive jeans. Fortunately, agencies like HDL are known for their unique ability to exceed client expectations with customized solutions.
3. The Dream Team: What to Look for in a Development Agency
When you’re looking for the perfect development agency, think of it as putting together your own superhero team. You want a group of talented individuals, each with their unique powers, working together to save the day (or, in this case, your digital presence).
First, look for creativity and innovation. You need an agency that thinks outside the box and isn’t afraid to push boundaries. HDL, for example, integrates strategy, design and technology to deliver solutions that are both fresh and exciting.
Second, prioritize technical expertise. Your dream team should be tech-savvy and up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies. They should be able to navigate the ever-changing digital landscape with ease and ensure that your project is both state-of-the-art and reliable.
Finally, communication is key. You want an agency that speaks your language (and we’re not talking about programming languages here). They should be able to explain complex concepts in a way that makes sense to you, without overwhelming you with jargon. After all, teamwork makes the dream possible!
4. The Power of Experience: Why a Proven Track Record Is Important
In the world of development, experience is like a fine wine-it gets better with age. An experienced agency brings invaluable insights and expertise to the table, ensuring your project is in capable hands. HDL, with its extensive portfolio and impressive industry awards, exemplifies this experience.
An experienced agency is likely to have encountered and overcome a multitude of challenges, making them well equipped to handle whatever comes their way. They’ve been around for a while and know how to navigate potential pitfalls, saving both time and money.
In addition, a proven track record is proof of an agency’s ability to deliver results. It shows that they’ve successfully helped other businesses reach their goals, and they can do the same for you. Plus, it’s always reassuring to know that you’re working with a team that has a history of satisfied clients.
5. Tailor-made solutions: why one size does not fit all
Imagine walking into a store and being told that one size fits all. You’d probably roll your eyes and walk out, right? Well, the same logic applies to digital solutions. What works for one business may not work for another, which is why tailored solutions are crucial. HDL specializes in creating unique solutions that match the individual needs of each client.
A good development agency understands that your business is unique, and so are your needs. They take the time to get to know you, your goals, and your audience before creating a customized solution that fits like a glove.
Whether it’s creating a user-friendly website, developing a state-of-the-art app, or designing a stunning brand identity, a tailored approach ensures your digital presence aligns with your vision. After all, you deserve a solution that’s as unique as you are.
6. User Experience: Creating Magic
In the digital age, user experience (UX) is everything. It’s the difference between a website that people love and one that makes them want to throw their computer out the window. A good development agency knows how to create magical experiences that keep users coming back for more. HDL’s focus on UX ensures that your digital presence is as engaging as it is functional.
From intuitive navigation to seamless functionality, a focus on UX ensures that your digital presence is user-friendly and engaging. It’s about ensuring that every interaction is smooth, enjoyable and leaves a lasting impression.
In addition, a positive user experience can increase customer loyalty and drive conversions. When users have a great experience, they are more likely to stick around and explore what you have to offer. It’s like a digital love story, and a good development agency is the matchmaker.
7. Creative Design: Realizing Your Vision
Design is where creativity meets functionality. It’s about turning your ideas into a visual masterpiece that captures the essence of your brand. A talented development agency knows how to bring your vision to life with stunning designs that leave a lasting impression. HDL’s expertise in graphic design and brand identity ensures your brand stands out.
From eye-catching graphics to stylish layouts, creative design is about making your digital presence stand out. It’s about creating a visual identity that resonates with your audience and sets you apart from the competition.
Moreover, good design goes hand in hand with user experience. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about creating a coherent and enjoyable experience for your users. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, and good design speaks volumes.
8. the art of communication: Keeping the Lines Open
In any successful relationship, communication is key. The same goes for your partnership with a development agency. You want a team that keeps the lines of communication open, ensuring you are always part of the process. HDL’s commitment to transparent communication ensures you’re part of the process every step of the way.
A good agency is transparent and keeps you updated every step of the way. They are open to feedback and willing to make adjustments to ensure your vision is realized. It’s about working together to achieve a common goal and creating a successful partnership.
In addition, effective communication builds trust and promotes cooperation. When you’re on the same page, it’s easier to overcome challenges and celebrate successes. After all, teamwork makes the dream possible!
9. The Benefits of Long-Term Partnerships: More than Just a One-Time Thing
A good development agency is more than just a one-off; they are a long-term partner in your digital journey. Building a lasting relationship with an agency like HDL can lead to continued success and growth for your business.
With a long-term partnership, your agency becomes an extension of your team. They understand your brand, your goals and your audience, allowing them to offer ongoing support and guidance. It’s all about working together to achieve long-term success and adapt to changes in the digital landscape.
What’s more, a long-term partnership ensures consistency and continuity in your digital presence. It’s like having a trusted ally by your side, ready to take on whatever challenges come your way. Plus, it’s always nice to have someone who knows you well and has your back.
10. Conclusion: Your Perfect Digital Partner is Waiting
In the search for the perfect development agency, it’s important to remember that it’s not just about finding a service provider; it’s about finding a partner. A partner who understands your vision, shares your goals and is committed to your success. With HDL, you have a team ready to exceed your expectations.
With the right agency by your side, you can navigate the digital jungle with confidence and creativity. You’ll have a team of tech-savvy superheroes ready to make your digital dreams come true, all while keeping it fun and engaging.
So, get out there and find your perfect digital partner. With the right agency, the possibilities are endless, and your digital journey is bound to be an exciting adventure filled with laughter and success.
How Composable Commerce is revolutionizing the online shopping experience
Over time, e-commerce has evolved from simple online stores to complex systems with seamless payments, personalized user panels, recommendations, filters, mobile access and many other useful features.
Despite this, these traditional systems have faced several challenges, such as a lack of flexibility, scalability, integration and the possibility of rapid functional updates. These issues stem from their unified and integrated architecture.
This is where composable commerce comes in. With its flexible and modular approach, businesses can create their ideal e-commerce platforms by integrating components such as microservices and APIs. Businesses can seamlessly combine useful components to adapt to the market, innovate faster and offer personalized shopping experiences.
This blog aims to explain why composable commerce is essential to deliver the best online experience for your customers.
What is Composable Commerce?
Composable commerce is a modern and modular approach to building and managing e-commerce platforms. It uses microservices, APIs, headless architecture and cloud services to create a personalized and customizable e-commerce experience that fits companies’ specific needs.
Unlike traditional, monolithic systems, where all components are tightly coupled and inflexible, composable commerce allows businesses to integrate individual functions and services without having to tear down the entire platform.
Microservices are key elements of composable commerce that break down different functions, such as payment, inventory management or catalog display, into manageable units. Similarly, APIs (application programming interfaces) enable communication and collaboration between these services.
With cloud-based infrastructure, businesses can easily scale up or down depending on demand, while a headless architecture separates the front-end (what the user sees) from the back-end, allowing greater flexibility for design and content.
Benefits of Composable Commerce compared to traditional e-commerce
Traditional e-commerce platforms often struggle to meet the demands of today’s fast-moving digital landscape. Their components, such as product catalogs, payment systems and user interfaces, are often tightly integrated. This means that changes to one feature require adjustments to the entire system, making the process costly and time-consuming.
Flexibility and customization
Composable commerce allows companies to tailor their e-commerce platforms to specific needs. They can select the best components, such as payment solutions or inventory management systems, and integrate them seamlessly.
Agility and speed
With composable commerce, new features and updates can be launched much faster. Companies can replace individual components without affecting the entire system, reducing downtime and increasing the pace of innovation.
Cost efficiency
Modular systems mean lower development and maintenance costs. Companies do not have to deal with large, complex systems and can scale up without incurring high costs.
Innovation
Composable commerce makes it easy to integrate and test new technologies, creating an environment of continuous improvement.
Composable Commerce improves the online shopping experience
In addition to its benefits, composable commerce contributes to a better user experience by offering personalized and engaging interaction.
Personalization
With AI and data analytics, companies can offer tailored product recommendations and analyze customer behavior to optimize the experience.
Seamless user experience
Modular components allow you to quickly improve loading times, navigation and checkout processes, increasing customer satisfaction and conversion rates.
Integrating new technologies
Composable commerce makes it easier to integrate technologies such as augmented reality (AR), voice control and IoT, opening up new opportunities for interactive shopping.
Challenges of Composable Commerce
Like any innovation, composable commerce has some challenges, such as initial complexity and the need for technical expertise. Careful selection of the right components and suppliers is required to ensure smooth integrations.
Conclusion
Composable commerce has the potential to reshape the world of e-commerce by offering businesses the flexibility, speed and adaptability needed to deliver first-class shopping experiences.

We at Helsingborg Design LAB are proud to have helped Dogman move from their existing Pimcore solution and Magento platform to a more scalable and dynamic solution to meet their growing needs.
The project included not only replatforming but also data migration, ERP integration and the transition to HDL Commerce with HavaPIM for product information management. The challenge was the tight timeframe – the project had to be completed in six months from start to launch.
Through close dialog and collaboration, we carried out a complete replatforming from Magento and Pimcore to our custom HDL Commerce platform, with our PIM system as the heart of the product information.
HDL was responsible for the design and concept, with our own products as the foundation and engine. The result is a robust and flexible e-commerce solution that prepares Dogman for future growth.

We at Helsingborg Design LAB are happy to have helped Dogman improve their booking management through the development of a customized platform for Dogman Care.

Dogman previously used Boka Direkt, where each store had its own system and account to manage bookings. This created several challenges as all stores offered the same services at the same price, but were managed independently. To improve efficiency and customer experience, Dogman wanted to move to a more centralized structure for its services under the Dogman Care brand.
HDL was commissioned to develop a customized platform for Dogman Care. We built a centralized booking system, a personnel system for managing staff and bookings, and a system for central control of services and prices. The platform is based on a composable architecture, making it scalable and future-proof.
We also integrated Voyado with a proprietary login system (IDP) to provide a smooth user experience for both staff and customers. The platform is based on HDL’s own e-commerce engine, which creates future opportunities for selling services and products directly through the platform.
The result is a robust and effective solution that improves both internal efficiency and customer satisfaction.
